WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania. Now Williamsport is using technology developed by NASA and only available at two locations in Pennsylvania to help people “get back” to health.
According to Dr. Denis Gallagher, CFMP DC, Reclaim Health, the Center for Weight Loss and Pain Management, located at 360 Market Street in Williamsport, offers Trifecta Red Light Therapy to help patients lose weight, reduce pain and inflammation.
Dr. Gallagher and his wife, Jean Gallagher, own and operate Reclaim Health, which opened on December 1, 2022.
The red light passes through “pods” or beds, much like tanning beds. “Treatment” involves lying in bed for 8 to 15 minutes.
It seems so easy – less than a quarter of an hour in a capsule – about 6-8 times to experience results that you can measure and feel.
(Indeed, it is a bit like lying on the beach under the scorching sun, as I can verify by tasting it.)
But in many ways, it’s easy, and it’s all about the technology, according to chiropractor and clinical nutritionist Dr. Gallagher.
Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), is the effect of red and near infrared light on human tissue.
Simply put, light is a therapy that helps to regenerate body cells. Not just any light, but light of the right color and intensity (red light and light with wavelengths outside the visible range) is combined and delivered to the skin to penetrate the body at the cellular level.
The Trifecta Red Light Therapy Capsule is just one of two currently available in Pennsylvania. “The only other one was used by the Pittsburgh Steelers,” said Dr. Gallagher. “Did you ever wonder how they got back on the court so quickly?” he joked.
Where other red light treatments use lower intensity lamps or require wrapping or technical supervision, Reclaim Health uses a laser application. Patients can relax in bed alone while the light does its job.
“It’s a $50,000 bed,” Dr. Gallagher said. “This is a huge contribution that I made to the community because it works on two different levels. It works for pain relief and body contouring.”
“Red light opens up fat cells, allowing them to stand out. It removes about 95 percent of the content,” explains Dr. Gallagher. After a short stay in the capsule, the patient steps on a vibrating plate that shakes fluid from the lymphatic system into the liver.
According to Gallagher, many patients want an alternative to surgery, which is a non-invasive, non-surgical, and pain-free method of fat loss.
While patients love to lose weight, red light technology is FDA approved to help people lose weight. “It helps to reduce the waist. So it is,” he says. “It will be an arm and a thigh.”
Body contouring is permanent if the patient also follows a healthy diet and exercise program. To help her patients stay on track, Dr. Gallagher draws on her experience in clinical nutrition to help them make lifestyle changes, including diet.
“We have a program we called Chirothin. This is a 42-day program that I usually do under medical supervision,” said Dr. Gallagher. “I’m with them every day,” he says, helping with meal plans. After 42 days, the patient switched to a maintenance plan.
Cells that are tired from external influences (such as cigarette smoke, poor diet, chemicals, viruses, or injury) are in a state of “oxidative stress” or an imbalance that prevents the cell from naturally detoxifying. According to Dr. Gallagher, properly exposing these cells to light can cause a reduction in oxidative stress, an increase in blood circulation, and an increase in cellular energy and function.
Trifecta capsules are similar to tanning beds, but offer a type of light therapy not offered to consumers anywhere else in Pennsylvania (unless you’re a professional football player).
Red light therapy is FDA approved for the treatment of chronic inflammation, including arthritis, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia, and chronic fatigue. Dr. Gallagher said he also recommends it to patients with Lyme disease, neuropathy, hair loss, and people recovering from injuries.
The therapy seems to benefit just about everyone, and that’s pretty accurate, says Dr. Gallagher, whose oldest current patient is 87. However, red light therapy is not recommended for pregnant women, those with epilepsy, cancer, or those taking medications that cause photosensitivity.
Dr. Gallagher has been a chiropractor for 20 years in the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area and sees about 100 patients a day. A long-distance relationship with his wife and a desire to settle in a less crowded environment prompted him to move to Williamsport.
The office in the downtown Masonic building is painted soothing blue by Jeanne Gallagher, with whom they get along well. They work 7 days a week according to the schedule.
“When female patients come in, I take care of them,” Jenny said. “So before their first visit, I measure their neck, shoulders, bust, waist, hips, upper thighs, then calves. They come for 12 minutes. inches, and we saw four to five inches,” she said.
Jenny explained that this was a cumulative measurement, not a full four or five inches offset from one area at a time. But some patients have lost 30 pounds in a six-week period.
In another case, one of their patients sought treatment for alopecia or alopecia and reported significant relief from her chronic back pain for which she had not actively sought treatment.
Medicare does not cover this type of treatment and it costs $50 for bed rest. Dr. Gallagher offers the first session for $37.
The company’s Facebook page has a number of testimonials, including Williamsport’s John Young, who says: “The best results come from the greatest effort. The combination of disciplined eating, exercise, and this technology has helped me crack down on the less stubborn. -term password is part of the fat part I struggled with as I got older.”
”If the problem is pain, then the injections don’t solve the problem,” said Dr. Gallagher. “They just mask it. They act on the cells and promote healing.”
